From Student Project to Go-Live: How “Stelli” Was Created at Stellwerk18

What began as a student project at the project fair of the Faculty of Computer Science at Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences is now live: “Stelli”, the new AI chatbot on the Stellwerk18 website, now supports visitors with fast, context-based answers, directly in the corporate look & feel.

Partners with Tradition: TH Rosenheim, Stellwerk18, and white duck

Stellwerk18 is the Digital Start-up Center for the Southeast Upper Bavaria region. With currently over 30 start-ups and almost 80 partners, it connects founders with established companies, universities, and economic development agencies. The goal: to quickly bring digital business ideas to market readiness.

The Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences is a state university for applied sciences with a strong practical focus. The Faculty of Computer Science offers degree programs in Computer Science, Business Informatics, and Applied Artificial Intelligence. Practical projects with companies are an integral part of the curriculum.

white duck, a service provider and Managed Service Provider for software and AI engineering based in Rosenheim, has long been connected with Stellwerk18 as a technology partner. Joint activities, events, and projects characterize the collaboration. At the same time, white duck has been involved in teaching in the Computer Science degree program at TH Rosenheim for years and organizes annual hackathons with students.

The TH Project: PoC with a Clear Vision

Stellwerk18 offered the project as a practical project for students of TH Rosenheim: the development of “Stelli“, an AI-based chatbot for their own website. Two working students from white duck were part of the project team. The goal was to quickly and qualitatively answer frequent inquiries about start-ups, location, offers, events, and the network, directly on the existing website and with a sustainable knowledge base. The Proof of Concept was presented at the 2025 project fair of the Faculty of Computer Science.

Continuation and Support: From PoC to Productive Solution

After the successful PoC, the white duck students continued the implementation, with the consultation of the white duck Product Team. The focus was clearly on implementation by the students; white duck provided the framework: architecture guidance, code reviews, quality assurance, security and operational issues, and the integration of AI governance.

Our SaaS solution Token Control is used for AI governance. Token Control enables the management of AI applications: budget and usage limits, cost transparency, and control of model access. Crucial for predictable productive operation. Token Control could be integrated into the solution plug-and-play and supports leading models and providers.

“Projects like ‘Stelli’ show how regional collaboration between universities, start-up centers, and technology partners leads to productive digital solutions. For us, it is an example of how students grow with real requirements while creating real added value.”

Stelli in Detail: Features and Technology

“Stelli” is an AI chatbot that supports visitors to the Stellwerk18 website with questions about start-ups, offers, events, and the network. The answers are based on a knowledge base built through web scraping and document uploads. At runtime, the chatbot uses RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to retrieve relevant information contextually and generate precise answers.

The knowledge base remains constantly up-to-date through automatic rescraping. New documents can be uploaded at any time, and existing ones can be managed, searched, or removed.

Administration is done via a Custom Plugin for WordPress. This allows for comfortable management of content, data sources, and the chat itself. The integration into the existing Stellwerk18 website is seamless, including the Stellwerk18 design language.

Go-Live: “Stelli” is Online

This week marked the launch: “Stelli” was officially released and is available to visitors of the Stellwerk18 website. The go-live does not end the work, but rather begins the phase of continuous improvement and expansion.

“The fact that a student project resulted in a productive solution for our website shows how much innovative power lies in regional collaboration. For us, ‘Stelli’ is a real asset: quick answers, directly in the Stellwerk18 look. The collaboration with students and white duck was goal-oriented and pragmatic.”

Florian Wiesböck, Managing Director, Stellwerk18
